বায়োগ্রাফি: Charles Robert Maturin (C. R. Maturin) is famous for his gothic fantasy novel series Melmoth the Wanderer. Originally an Irish Protestant clergyman, his family was descended from Huguenots. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and went to Trinity College. His first three novels were commercially unsuccessful yet they were able to catch the attention of Sir Walter Scott and Lord Byron. With their assistance, his play Bertman went on production. Unfortunately due to his family's bankruptcy, he couldn't achieve financial success until his last years. In 1821 many of his plays were translated in French and were admired by the likes of Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas. His son Edward Maturin was Naturalised as an American, he too became an author of Gothic novels with historical themes and backgrounds. Charles Maturin was Oscar Wilde's great-uncle by marriage. Wilde rejected his name during his exile in France and took the name Melmoth.
