বায়োগ্রাফি: Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux was a French journalist and writer of detective fiction. He is best known for his novel The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, 1910- English translation published in 1911) in the English peaking world. He was born in Normandy and inherited a lot of wealth. He studied law in Paris and in 1890 he started working as a court reporter and theatre critic for L'Écho de Paris after going bankrupt. His most important part of his journalist career happed when started working for the Paris newspaper Le Matin an international correspondent. He reported the 1905 Russian Revolution. in 1907 He left journalism and began writing fiction. In 1919, he and Arthur Bernède established Société des Cinéromans, their own film company that made novels into movies. His role to French detective fiction is parallel to those of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the United Kingdom and Edgar Allan Poe in the United States. in 1909Leroux received the Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur.
