After being exiled in 1872 he ran away to different places and worked as a French teacher. 1880, he was granted amnesty. Then in 1893, he went back to politics again. His science fiction novel Les Exilés de la Terre – Selene-Company Limited (1887) is considered one of the most fantastic novels of all time.
